Seven years inside the machine.

Agency

Seven years at Visual Jazz as it became Visual Jazz Isobar and then Isobar. Designing websites, campaigns, booking flows and digital products for some of Australia’s largest brands. I was one designer inside larger creative teams, working under creative directors alongside UX, copy, account and development.

Years
2009 — 2016

You rarely designed anything alone.

My job was to understand what had already been decided, contribute where design could improve it, and make the work hold together when it became real.

A car launch, an airline checkout and an apartment search could arrive in the same month. Different brands, different teams and different directors but the expectation around craft did not change.

Between 2009 and 2016 the work moved from desktop-heavy websites and campaign microsites toward responsive design, mobile booking, eCommerce and increasingly product-like experiences. Screen sizes multiplied, tools changed and expectations rose quickly.

Seven years — Websites, campaigns and booking flows across major brands

Agency of the Year — AdNews Digital Agency of the Year, 2012

Holden (Platform · Campaigns)

A long-running account with something always shipping.

Holden meant everything from major vehicle launches and to maintaining a large national website. I worked as part of the wider agency team across model pages, campaigns and interactive experiences, learning how much design happens between the hero launch and the hundreds of screens that simply have to remain correct.

Jetstar (Booking · Payment · Boarding)

Where visual decisions became measurable decisions.

Jetstar was one of the first clients where interface design discussed directly in terms of conversion. Booking, payment, add-ons and boarding passes were not just presentation screens. Small changes could be tested against behaviour and commercial performance. It was a very different feedback loop from campaign work.

Quest Apartments (Search · Listings · Booking)

Making a large accommodation network feel simple.

Quest was less about campaign spectacle and more about making a large network of independently-run properties feel dependable. Search, property detail, availability and payment had to stay consistent while still giving individual locations enough room to describe themselves.

Digital Agency of the Year — AdNews Agency of the Year Awards · Visual Jazz Isobar · 2012

Being a designer in a room full of specialists.

The job was not to own the whole answer. It was to make your part strong enough to survive critique, connect with everyone else’s work and still make sense when it reached production.
